Dawn has lived in Atlanta for 30 years and in Midtown since 2004. She started in Virginia Highland, followed by Morningside and finally her current neighborhood, Midtown. Originally from Tullahoma, TN, she moved here after a short stint in northern California, seeking an urban community over the suburbs that were the common life-style choice at that time.
While in Virginia-Highland, she was a founding member of the Virginia Highland Business Association (VHBA) and an active member of the neighborhood association, working for many years on the annual Summerfest festival when it was operated by the restaurants in the area. At the time, she and her then-husband owned the Dark Horse Tavern, Neighbors Pub and the Urban Market. As part of the VHBA, she spearheaded an effort to add trash cans to the business district that were serviced by the city sanitation dept. In Morningside, she was heavily involved in the PTA at Morningside Elementary, chairing the annual fundraising auction in the late 90s. Her committee doubled the contributions received from prior years, raising the bar for future events which continue to support the school today.
She has been active in the MNA over the past 13 years, helping with neighborhood clean-ups, tree plantings, safety issues and zoning activities. Always having an eye toward how our environs impact the quality of our life-style, she formed the VIBE committee under the NMA. You can find out more about VIBE on the committee page but the acronym defined below.
Dawn is currently a realtor/associate broker with Keller Williams and is business owner in Midtown. She and her husband Terry Kitts own Environs Residential, a design/build firm that has been in operation since 2001. She holds an accounting degree from the University of Tennessee and has over the years been involved in a variety of entrepreneurial endeavors.
She is an avid road cyclist and rides annually with the Shephard Team to support Bike MS. When time permits, she participates in cycling and pedestrian activities with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and PEDS. She also loves the mountains and outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking with friends and camping. She has a son Robert, who served in the US Army and Afghanistan and is now in school at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. She, Terry, and their two dogs, Yoshi and Betty, live on Argonne Ave and spend as much time as possible on their front porch or walking around the neighborhood….
She is excited to be on the MNA board where her passion for Atlanta’s diverse communities will guide the VIBE committee to a bring positive changes to the Midtown streetscapes.
