WHO WE ARE
The Midtown Parents' Group (MPG) is a partnering organization with the Midtown Neighborhood Association dedicated to creating a network of families that provides support, information (and fun!) while promoting awareness of issues affecting our children. In partnering with the MNA, we seek to foster a solid connection between Midtown families-with-children and the rest of the community.
WHO CAN JOIN
The Midtown Parents' Group is open to any families in and around the Midtown area who are interested in participating, and if you are a member of the MNA with children, you are naturally eligible for membership. Simply contact us at Midtownparentsgroup@yahoo.com. Our Membership coordinator will let you know how to be included in our communications. You are encouraged to come to the monthly MPG planning meetings, where your input counts! Keep abreast of current parent group activities and important civic issues.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE MEETINGS
Planning meetings are held on a monthly basis at a local restaurant or a member's home.
WHAT WE DO
Playgroups
Playgroups, which may be arranged at members houses, or at playgrounds and other kid-friendly places, are an excellent opportunity for children to get to know playmates in the neighborhood~~and for families to get acquainted, too!.
Our playgroups, divided by age group, are known as the Midtown Posse, the Midtown Ratpack, the Midtown Amigos, the Midtown Crew, and the Midtown Rascals. Our members are also interested in exploring a multilingual playgroup.
Special Events and Activities
Celebrations: The MPG coordinates and sponsors family activities each year. Some mixed-age get-togethers and outings include the Fall Hay Ride, Halloween Party and Trick-0r-Treating on Penn Avenue, Winter Holiday Party, Breakfast with Santa, St. Patrick's Day Party, Spring Egg Hunt, and Summer Solstice Party.
Special Programs: Our members are creative! In the past, MPG has organized free parent/child programs run by members such as a "Musikids Midtown," a music and movement playgroup; and "Bookids Midtown," a reading playgroup. We're looking for members to reprise these programs, or to come up with new new ones!
Mother's Night Out/Dad's Night Out: Join neighborhood parents for an evening of adult interaction at a local restaurant or home. Locations and times vary - being an active member keeps you informed!
Stroller Brigade: Meet with strollers or backpacks for a stroll to destinations unknown. We are currently seeking a coordinator.
Get Informed, Get Involved, Get Connected!
MPG has a helping hand committee and an in-house contractors/schools guide made of members' recommendations. MPG is actively involved in issues affecting children including the Safety Committee, Piedmont Park, sidewalk and pedestrian safety, school issues and more. Many of our members are active participants in the Midtown Neighbors Association.
Most important of all, many of our families form lifelong friendships they always cherish. Come join us!
