CITY OF ATLANTA IMPLEMENTS NEW PARKING ZONES

PARKatlanta, a collaborative initiative led by the City's Department of Public Works is enhancing our parking operations with new technology, single-space and multi-space solar-powered meters as well as enhanced signage and payment options.

A television series will be filming along West Peachtree Street on Thursday, August 19. This will result in partial lane closures on West Peachtree on August 19. Full details are available in the attached .pdf. Expect slower than usual traffic and congestion on surrounding streets during the day on Thursday.


PARKatlanta Public Parking Management Program

The City of Atlanta has taken a significant approach towards implementing improvements to on-street public parking. On Monday, July 19, 2010 the Atlanta City Council approved the creation of special parking zones in certain areas of the City. These zones were developed as a result of community engagement with various stakeholders from around the City who are serving on the City Council Transportation Sub-Committee for Public Parking. The legislation to create the zone is expected to be fully implemented by the end of July as it awaits the Mayor’s signature and undergoes codification. The Parking Zones are as follows:

10th Street from Charles Allen to Monroe Drive will be closed starting on Friday, July 2 at 12:00pm to Sunday, July 4 at 3:00pm. Monroe Drive will close between Virginia Avenue and Kanuga Street at 7am on Sunday, July 4 and will remain closed until around noon. Peachtree Place Closed from Peachtree to West Peachtree at 8am on Sunday, July 4 and remain closed until noon.

The Georgia Charter Schools Commission (GCSC) today approved the creation of two statewide virtual charter schools that together will serve grades 4-12. A virtual school offers courses to students via the Internet with teachers available online and by telephone.

There is a filming of a chase scene on Saturday that will require Spring Street to be closed from 8AM to 7PM, from 8th to Ponce. Also Williams Street at Spring (near Arby's) will be closed as well, to the 5th Street bridge. (more inside)

Ordinance 10-O-0468, which modifies the Atlanta Code of Ordinances Chapter 150 (Entitled “Stopping, Standing and Parking”), Division 4 (Entitled “Residential Permit Parking”), so as to amend the procedures to be followed for the establishment of Residential Permit Parking Areas within the City of Atlanta, is on the Transportation Committee Agenda for consideration. The Committee will hold a Public Hearing on this issue May 26, 2010. (more inside)


Dogwood Weekend Traffic Alert: Multiple Events

The City of Atlanta will be hosting multiple events during the dates of April 16-18, 2010. We anticipate large volumes of vehicular traffic and strongly encourage all participants to utilize MARTA. Some of the larger events that will be occurring are the Dogwood Festival in Piedmont Park, Braves Baseball at Turner Stadium, Sweetwater 420 Festival in Candler Park, and the FIRST Robotics Conference at the Georgia World Congress Center. Every effort will be made by the City and the Atlanta Police Department to provide the least amount of disruption to those residents whose neighborhoods are directly affected by any of these events.
